Transportation of children is always a very delicate and difficult moment because it is important to ensure the safety of the kid. That is why many aspects are regulated even at the legislative level. Studies have shown that a standard seat belt is not enough if the height of the kid is less than 135 cm. Besides, they might turn out to be completely ineffective because the child can simply slip down and move forward.
In the past, lots of parents used to put kids on their lap while going somewhere by car. But it is also very dangerous, because when hitting or braking hard, the adult falls forward, and the baby takes all this weight.
Is there a way out? Definitely, there is one! A good and high-quality car seat for the age and height of the child will save it in case of accidents. The probability of death is reduced by 71% if the child is less than a year, and twice more if he/she is 1 to 4 years old. What if you don’t have your own car seat? This is not a problem if you rent a car from us at Ukr-Prokat. You can order it additionally!
How and when can children be transported?
In 2020, new rules for the transportation of children came into legal force. The Verkhovna Rada voted for them in November 2019. Children under the age of 12 and up to 145 cm must be transported in a car seat. Violation of this rule entails a fine of 30 non-taxable minimum incomes. And if the violation is recorded again during the year, the fine increases to 50 non-taxable minimum incomes. In addition, administrative liability is provided.
And if you look in more detail, here are the rules and restrictions that apply to the transportation of children in 2020:
- Children under the age of 12 and up to 145 cm in height may not be transported in a car without a special device that allows the child to be fastened with a belt;
- It is forbidden to transport children under the age of 12 and up to 145 cm in height in the back seat of a motorcycle or moped;
- It is forbidden to transport children under the age of 16 in the body of a truck;
- It is forbidden to transport a group of children in the dark part of the day.
Is it possible to use a pillow instead of a car seat?
Some parents, in search of an alternative, put the child on a pillow and fasten a regular seat belt. But this is not possible. This is against the law. And, much more seriously, it is completely ineffective and dangerous for the child. Numerous crash tests, videos of which you can find even on YouTube, have shown that such amateurism not only does not help from potential injuries in an accident but can also aggravate them.
Which car seat will be effective?
The car seat should be chosen taking into account the age, weight and height of the child. Buy it “to grow up with the kid” will not work. Children under 3 years old must have Y-belts or belts with five-point fastenings. The chair must be certified. It is better to take the so-called primary plastic, because when struck, it only deforms, but does not break. For ease of use, pay attention to how easy the chair is to install, whether it can be used as a carrier, whether the upholstery can be removed and whether it is permeable to moisture.
Carseats group 0 are designed for children under one year and weighing up to 10 kg, 0 + – up to 18 months and 13 kg. Group 1 is suitable for 9-18 kg and children 1-4 years old, group 2 – for 15-25 kg and 3-7 years old, and group 3 – for 22-36 kg and ages 7-12 years old.
